Ballyjamesduff Frolics packing them in again

It's Frolics time again in Ballyjamesduff and the first of seven shows hit the boards last night (Thursday) in St Joseph’s Hall before a capacity audience.

Ballyjamesduff Musical Society are always very proud to present this sparkling revue of music, comedy and dance and the Chairman of the Frolics Committee Michael Callaghan says a lot of hard work has gone in during rehearsals since last October, to ensure a superb night’s entertainment.

Here is a short clip from the show:

Frolics first commenced in 1952 and the fact that it is still going strong on the cusp of the 70th anniversary in 2022, illustrates that the show is still a massive crowd puller and retains its great energy and appeal.

We are fortunate in recent years to have seen a great influx of talented young people and this has been given renewed impetus with the introduction of the transition year in secondary schools”, said Michael Callaghan.

A lot of experience gleaned over the years is utilised with great versatility to ensure that a very professional show is brought to the stage each night”, added Michael.

The committee works very hard to ensure the seven nights run off smoothly to ensure that the audiences enjoy their night out.

People like the Secretary Patricia Greene and the Treasurer, Rosemary Galligan use their superb organisational flair to ensure that professional approach permeates to every aspect of the staging of the show. The late John McBreen, a Frolics stalwart for many years, would be very proud of their excellent work.

The comedy is a major part of the Frolics Show every year and an experienced team with some new additions have come up with some hilarious sketches that are sure to have the audiences in stitches.

Joe Moynagh, Patrick Farrelly and Adrian McCabe have scripted the sketches together with a number of short comedy interludes to keep the audience laughing.

They are joined on the stage for the routines by Breda Corkery and Sinead Browne, Bernie Lynch, Grainne McEntee and Mattie Boylan.

The Music Producer Susan Willis said several songs from that hit show Les Miserables will be featured, and the very talented soloists really bring the performances to life.

Three Madonna songs will also feature, superbly performed by the female cast members.

The male cast members showcase their talents with great songs from Frankie Valli.

The show will also include a number of songs about climate change which is topical.

Susan saw the young cast members grow in confidence as the rehearsals progress and they really blossom when the shows are performed in front of the audiences. “It is a fabulous activity for any young teenager to be involved in.

I would like to express thanks to the wonderful cast and crew for all their dedication and commitment since last September”, said Susan.

Sabrina McCauley Healey, Choreographer said the cast has work very hard and are right on track for the staging of the show on six nights and one matinee.

The expert sound is provided by M&K Sound, and the lighting is courtesy of the professionals, Panic Hire.

The show continues tonight Friday 28, Saturday 29 and Sunday, March 1, Thursday 5, Friday 6, and Saturday 7. The show on Sunday, March 1 is a matinee at 5pm.
