GE2016 Profile: Eamon Murray (Ind)

Name: Eamon Murray

Occupation: Former property developer and social activist

Marital Status: Unknown

Priorities:

A Leitrim native now residing in Cavan, Mr Murray is former property developer, he ran unsuccessfully in the 2014 elections to Cavan County Council.

His urgent priorities include a full and immediate equality for the self-employed who he says are and always have been the largest contributors of employment nationally.

“The current system where some public service worker gets their last year's pay tax free, this should be extended to all PAYE and self-consciously as an expression of gratitude for all of their years of work and tax contributions.”

In agriculture, he wants more open and fairer markets for farmers to produce livestock, and calls for what he describes as “factory cartels” and price controls. He also prioritises a need for incentivising young farmers.

A key focus of Mr Murray's campaigns in the past have been on mental-health, and he wants to see a more “helpful and cohesive” approach to supports.

Clean, safe water is also high on his agenda, criticising the addition of Fluroide in drinking water, and furthermore calls for Fracking to be banned.

He states that rates and rents for businesses are “crushing” entrepreneurial spirit, and believes breaks should be introduced to ensure economic viability and survival.
