Results of the ninth count: Newcomer Carmel Brady (FG) elected, having exceeded the quota. Other candidates elected without reaching the quota Val Smyth (FG), Fergal Curtin (FF), Clifford Kelly (FF). They join Niamh Smyth (FF) and Paddy McDonald (SF) on Cavan County Council.

Results of count eight are in: Paddy McDonald (SF) has been elected and his surplus is to now be distributed.

Result of the seventh count is in. The Sinn Féin whip Charlie Boylan has been eliminated - a casualty of the redrawing of the boundaries from the LEA. A massive round of applause for him from the floor. His votes are now to be distributed.

Sixth count - no candidate has reached the quota. John O'Hare (FG) has lost his seat, has been eliminated and his votes are now to be distributed.

The counting of votes for the local elections in County Cavan is expected to get underway at 2pm on Saturday afternoon as all votes will be sorted in the morning.
