Students put their energy to good use

Live in Green at St. Clare's College, Ballyjamesduff.
Students from St. Clare's College in Ballyjamesduff and Breifne College in Cavan make up three of the 20 teams shortlisted for Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland's (SEAI) search for One Good Idea.
The campaign is a nationwide competition where post-primary schools devise an innovative campaign to improve awareness levels and understanding of climate change and energy efficiency and is organised by SEAI and the Power of One working in partnership with Change.ie.
The teams 'Live in Green' and 'Team Planet' from St. Clare's College and 'Power of 6' from Breifne College will have the opportunity to showcase their work at the prestigious national final, which will take place in Dublin Castle on May 6th, 2010.The judges will listen to each team present their campaign and winning teams will be rewarded with fantastic prizes for their team and their school! The MC for the evening event will be Aidan Power from RTE's The Café and Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan TD will be in attendance.
Aoife Cannon, education executive with SEAI said of the project: "We are very excited about the talent and inspirational campaigns we have seen from each of our finalists - each project is innovative and really communicates the message of climate change and energy efficiency. The calibre of ideas from students far exceeded our expectations and it will be a difficult decision for the judges to pick the overall winner this year." The One Good Idea project allows groups of students to work in teams to research, design and implement a campaign to increase awareness around climate change and energy efficiency to one of three target audiences, adults and the wider community, their peers or primary school children.
The project challenges their imaginations to look at the problems of climate change in a new and exciting way.
They can use drama, art, music or writing to bring their idea to life and ensure the message reaches their audience in the most effective way.
