What's on for the weekend

Here's our round up of some of the events going on around the county this weekend and early next week...

 

Fishing competition
Where: Derries Lake

What:Lough Gowna/Upper Erne Anglers will host the Edward Shiels Memorial Pike Fishing Competition (boat) on Sunday, February 16, on Derries Lake. Fishing from 11am-4pm. For more information contact Ciaran Lee on 086 857 9156. Membership due on this day €10.

New comedy
Where: Ballyconnell Community Centre
When: Thursday, February 13, 8pm
What: From the writer of the 'Quare Land’ comes 'A Lock of Fierce Roars’. Tickets available on 087 7787 514.

Ballyconnell Parish Social
Where: Tomregan Hall
When: Friday, February 14
What: Music by Vincie Carr and Ann Grory. Admission €10 on the door. Waltzing competition. Supper served, everyone welcome.

Templeport 8k Run
Where:
When: Saturday, February 15
What: Annalee AC (Templeport Branch) will host an inaugural 8k run with the race starting at noon. Everybody is invited to run, jog or walk on the day. The course is a 7k loop, starting at the outskirts of Bawnboy (at the Bottlebank) around by the cutaway and finishing at St Aidan’s GAA Grounds.
The event is AAI licensed and will be chip timed. Registration online at www.precisiontiming.net and at St Aidan’s grounds on the morning of the run up to 11.30am. Online entries €15 subject to fees and charges. Entries on the day €17. All proceeds go towards contributing to repairs to the running track and to purchase training equipment. Prizes will be given on the day for the top men and women and for masters’ categories. Contact Paul Fahy on 087 3150 729.

Fundraising Dance
Where: Kinawley Hall
When: Saturday, February 15, 10pm
What: Dancing to Evening Star to help Mushroom Danny and Anna and Young Gun John Joe and Donna raise funds for the “Not so strictly dancing Swanlinbar and Corlough”. Bar facilities on the night.

Aughawillan drama
Where: Aughawillan Hall
When: February 13, 14, 15 and 16
What: Aughawillan Drama stage The Real McCoy, a new comedy by Tommy Marren. Curtain 8.30pm.

The Devil’s Ceili
Where: Cornmill Theatre, Carrigallen Co.Leitrim
When: Starts Friday, February 14
What: The dark comedy play is set in a Ceili House in Ireland in the 1960s where one night the Devil appears and wreaks havoc on the lives of three upstanding members of the rural community. There will be a wine and canape reception in the Cornmill Theatre for the opening night on Friday, February 14.

Where: Cavan Crystal Hotel
When: Wednesday, February 12
What: Cavan Toastmasters
Cavan Toastmasters will host an open night for their next meeting tonight (Wednesday) at 8:15 pm in the Cavan Crystal Hotel. This demonstrates what a typical meeting consists of, which is table topics, three speeches given by members at different stages in their first 10 speeches towards becoming a competent communicator, and evaluation of those speeches. All welcome.

Galway band 'My fellow Sponges’ make their debut in the bi-weekly arts and entertainment night. Longford band Poroma are the support. Admission free, suggested donation €5 waged €4 unwaged.

Gun Club
Where: The Royal Bar
When: Saturday, February 15
What: Game Tasting night
Ballyjamesduff Gun Club are holding a Game Tasting night in The Royal Bar on Saturday, February 15 at 9pm. Donations and raffle on the night in aid of St. Clare’s NS. Music on the night by Na Fianna. Everyone welcome.

5K Fun Run/Walk
Where: Longford Rugby Club
When: Sunday, February 16
What: A 5k Fun Run/Walk will take place on Sunday 16 February assembling at Longford Rugby Club for Registration is at 11.15am. Entry fee is €10. Fun Run/Walk sets off at 12.30pm. All proceeds to Longford Youth’s Rugby Club. Refreshments will be served afterwards. Your support will be appreciated.

Drama at Inish
Where: Carnaross Community Centre
When: Friday, February 14
What: Drama at Inish by Lennox Robinson opens in the Carnaross Community Centre on February 14 with a cheese and wine reception kindly sponsored by Sheridans cheesemongers. Tickets €10. Play continues on February 15, 16 and following weekend February 21, 22 and 23 at 8pm. Tickets €12. Booking office: 087 0554 158.

Open Night
Where: Teagasc College, Ballyhaise
When: Thursday, February 20
What: If you ever thought about keeping bees, there will be an open night in Teagasc College, Ballyhaise for those interested in becoming members of Cavan Beekeepers Association. This will be an ideal opportunity to find out a little more about beekeeping so be sure to go along. There will be an Open Night on Thursday, February 20 for those interested.

Cavan Walkers
Where: The Orchard Bar
When: Sunday, February 16
What: The proposed walk for next Sunday, February 16, is in the Glenade area of Co Leitrim. Walkers meet at 9am at the Orchard Bar, Cavan with later pick up point at Spar Supermarket, Derrylin. For further information contact cavanwalkers@live.com or see Facebook.
