Valentines Day saw Belturbet celebrate its longstanding love affair - with trad music, that is!

Cavan Town Comhaltas hosted a night of music, song and craic at the Widow's Bar last Sunday, February 14, to celebrate ten years of traditional music in Belturbet's popular Main Street venue.

Sunday's seisiún mór featured a host of musicians young and old, with Brendan and Aisling Fay marking ten years to the night since they started running the weekly trad events with Cavan box player Martin Donohoe and Comhaltas friends.

Martin Donohoe, chairman of Cavan Comhaltas, was joined early in the evening with over 26 of the county's youth talent including Ulster Champions Seamus and Gareth Tierney, Daragh Smith and Aoife Donohoe traditional singers, with music and songs also from Liz McDermott, Mickey McDonnell, Jim McElgunn, John Crane, Fintan McManus, the Crowe brothers from Ballyconnell, Pat O'Connor and band from Dublin, the Hickey family from Mayo and sean nos dancing with Danny O'Connor from Dublin and Ann Marie Gray from Offaly.

Enzo from the Venice Café provided the food and even sang his favourite Irish tune, Molly Malone!

Brendan Fay of the Widow's is involved with the event planning of the All-Ireland Fleadh 2010 in Cavan town, and has a great love of traditional arts and culture, while Ailish is often to be heard playing the accordion and whistle in the Sunday night sessions.

The Widow's Bar is known for its great atmosphere.

The Sunday sessions always guarantee a good night, while an Irish sing-song with Sam, John, Michael and friends is hosted on Tuesday nights.

Brendan and Ailish presented Martin Donohoe with a specially commissioned piece of crystal to express their gratitude to him for his part in keeping the tradition alive and vibrant.
