More thrilling drama for final week of Cavan festival

East meets West in the Town Hall Cavan on Wednesday, March 28 when Kilrush Drama Group from Wexford presents Martin McDonagh's "The Lonesome West". Part of his Leenane Trilogy, this play tells of the frustration of the young, alcoholic Father Welsh, as he attempts to reconcile two feuding, middle-aged brothers intent on killing each other while at the same time fending off the romantic advances of the young Girleen Kelleher. It all takes place in a parish he considers to be the "crime capital of Europe" and the characters embroiled in this hilarious comedy with its violence and dark moods, will be hard to forget. From closer to home the Cornmill Theatre Group (Thursday, March 29) will bring Christmas and Easter a little closer together in Conor McPherson's 'The Seafarer'. A seasonal poker game - its five players fuelled by whiskey - leads to a lot of existential talk, but the themes of despair and redemption involve lively, funny, thought-provoking dialogue that captivates. Besides, just who is the lonely Mr Lockhard? For more previews of what's going on around the region pick up a copy of this week's Anglo-Celt.
