Hot Sprockets Cafe Sessions gig live-streamed on Celt website

Damian McCarney If you like your bands to look like Rory Gallagher's extended family, and share the Donegal legend's love of bluesy rock 'n' roll, then you'll be pleased by tonight's Cafe Sessions headliners - The Hot Sprockets. The Dublin five-piece have played the cafe before: two "very wild, packed nights", according to one of the organisers, Joe Keenan. Expect to hear some tracks from their debut album Honey Skippin' which Hotpress compared to "both the Stones Let it bleed-era and the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at their demented finest." Judge for yourself by checking out this track recorded live in Cavan last year by music video director Finn Keenan:

"Another sweaty rock 'n' roll night at the Café guaranteed," promises Cafe Sessions co-driving force Joe Keenan. He'd offer your money back if you're disappointed but since it's free in... Acoustic singer-songwriter Annie June Callaghan is first up on the Chapter 1 floor tonight, and she alone is worth braving the wintry trip down to the Cavan Town venue. Her wondrous musical creations - which she describes as "fairytale-esque with a hint of dark folk" may not be to everyone's taste (check her out on http://soundcloud.com/annie-june-callaghan), but her voice certainly is. Annie hopes to be joined by a few of Cavan's "hero musicians". Blue Valentines presents The Hot Sprockets and Annie June Callaghan at Café Sessions Chapter 1 on Thursday, January 17, at 8pm. The gig is assisted by Cavan Co Council Arts Awards and live streamed on http://www.anglocelt.ie/cafesessions/
