Songsisters entertain the hall in Killeshandra this weekend

The renowned Songsisters are back on Saturday, February 8, in Killeshandra Hall in what is sure to be an unmissable show.
The group are presenting 'The Andrews Sisters at the Hollywood Canteen’, a musical comedy written by Carol Ann Farrelly and Geraldine McDonald and directed by Farrelly. The show has been described as a farcical comedy, with a lot of music thrown in. It is based on the music of the Andrews sisters, who entertained American GIs during World War Two.
The group will be well-known to readers, having originally enjoyed some success in the 1990s, including several television appearances, as a girl group called Just Friends.
“We sort of all went away and did our thing and then basically got back together. It’s very, very enjoyable,” group member Carmel O’Donoghue, who is joined by Geraldine McDonald, Geraldine McGrath and Paula Gormley, with Eileen Tackney as musical director, told The Anglo-Celt.
The arts scene is thriving in Cavan, said Carmel.
“There are fantastic things going on, I don’t know what we’re on,” she smiled.
“We’re really looking forward to the show in Killeshandra, it has been well-received so far.
“Eileen joined us in recent years as a musical director and is an extremely accomplished lady. She’s fantastic really.”
Having come from a background purely in musical performances, the Songsisters have expanded their repertoire.
“This is the first time we have incorporated singing and acting, in the past we just did musical performances,” said Carmel.
“Then we decided we wanted a show that we could take on the road, and we decided to build in a bit of drama and comedy around it. It works very well.
“We would have spent most of last year putting it together from scratch and we intend taking it on the road after that.”
The singers will also be joined by some brave local 'GIs’, all of whom were 'recruited’ in Killeshandra.
