Movie classics to be shown under the stars

What better way to enjoy classic films than under the stars at the tranquil Abbeylands this Saturday?
Cavan Chamber and Moth Productions have joined forces to organise the screening of two musicals in the beautiful walled garden on Abbey Street, promising a magical evening for all.
The evening feature presentation was voted for by locals on Cavan Chamber’s website and the overwhelming winner of this vote was the fun-filled musical The Blues Brothers. Starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd as “Joliet Jake” and Elwood Blues, and a host of blues and soul legends the 1980 film won both critical and popular acclaim.
Before the main feature, the award winning short film, The Gloaming will be screened. Written and directed by Sean Smith and produced by Smith and Lauren Murphy, the film stars local actors Kevin McGahern, Tommy Sharkey and Kim McCafferty and boasts an original score by Choice Music Prize-winning musician Adrian Crowley. The chilling story of a father and son stalked by an ancient evil, The Gloaming was shot entirely on location in rural County Cavan, with the support of Cavan Arts Office. Admission for the evening show will be €10 per adult.
However before the fun of The Blues Brothers, the timeless Disney classic for kids - The Jungle Book - is first up, with the screening commencing at 4pm. Admission is €3 per child, and supervising adults will be admitted free of charge.

President of Cavan Chamber of Commerce, Lyn Sharkey enthused: “When we came up with the idea of Cinema under the Stars, Moth Productions were a natural partner – we like to work with our Chamber members and if at all possible promote them as well.
“The Abbeylands is an area we felt is a real asset to the town and maybe has not be used as much as it could be. It is a gorgeous location for this event – these outdoor cinemas are becoming very popular around Dublin and a few other locations around the country. We thought this would be a perfect venue for it and a lovely social occasion.”
Movie-lovers are invited to bring a rug or deck chair, and a picnic and organisers have coverage arranged in case of poor weather.
However the forecast is good and it is recommend that you get your tickets in advance for these screenings, as demand is high and they are available in Eason’s Cavan or by emailing info@cavanchamber.ie to book.
Screenings of both shows are on Saturday, August 30. At 4pm The Jungle Book, tickets: €3 per child, supervising adults free.
At 9pm The Gloaming and The Blues Brothers, tickets: €10.
