The already booming amateur drama scene has found another new talented voice with the debut play by Milltown’s Joe McManus.
Called ‘Lies’, the play directed by Colette Maguire will be performed by Killeshandra Community Drama Group this weekend in Carrigallen, followed by performances in Killeshandra Community Hall.
The tranquility of the quiet rural village of ‘Keenlara’ is disturbed when al property is purchased by people from Dublin, unknown to the residents, and who turn this village up-side down.
The play deals with strong and compelling social issues. However Colette says the two act play is laced with comedy and plot-twists with a surprising climax, ensuring audiences are in for an emotional rollercoaster.
Joe McManus penned this exciting drama for the stage, and also plays the role of the barman. He promises there will be characters who members of the audience can empathise with in the course of the play.
There is a great bond between the members of the twelve strong cast. The cast include: Colm McCormack, Joe McManus, Eoin Farrelly, Kelan Braiden, Dara Farrelly, Mark Connolly, Darragh Donohoe, Joel Carson, Sean Feeney. Gwen Conroy, Mary Keaney and Maria Fitzpatrick.
Carol-Ann Farrelly provides sound effects, lighting is the responsibility of Garry Shanley, while the set manager is Brian Farrelly. Pauric Tiernan is the stage manager and the make-up artists are Emma Tiernan and Colette McGerty.
The last performance in Corn Mill Theatre is tonight (Saturday, March 14) at 8.30pm. The cast then stage two hometown performances in Killeshandra Community Hall on Sunday, March 15 and Monday, March 16. An art exhibition by Daragh Donohoe coincides with these performances.
