This Friday, March 27 will herald the one year anniversary of The CO (Creative Outlet) Club in Oldcaste, the monthly night of music and arts that has been held in Crean’s bar in the town on the last Friday of every month since March 2014.
This month there will be a special celebration with music from Cavan’s Áine Cahill and Mullingar’s Peter Doran, comedy from Trevor Browne, art display from Elena Duff, screening of work from Fan Footage. Last but certainly not least, there will be cake!
The Anglo-Celt spoke to Ollie Burns, co-founder of The CO Club on the eve of the popular night’s one year anniversary.
“The first year of The CO Club has been a phenomenal success,” Ollie begins. “The genuine response from people attending and the artists performing was a welcome reward on the birth of The CO Club, it encouraged us to continue and expand on our ideas.
“We have had over 60 artists perform here including musicians, artists, writers, poets, film makers, comedians, fashion designers, photographers and we have on occasion surprised the audience with culinary treats which always go down a treat,” he said.

Highlights
Asked what his highlights of the past year were, Ollie admits it’s tough to choose.
“Some of the highlights from the first year include, Poet Stephen James Smith who entertained the crowd with his performance poetry, local fashion designer Mary Brady gave a great insight into the world of haute couture and brought some wonderful pieces to help explain the finer details of her intricate work ranging from, exquisite dress making to millinery to tailoring.
“Art from local well respected artists, Joey Burns, Dave Gavin, Michelle Boyle, Margaret McKenna Dunne Des Connors and Jack Allen.”
Music though is a central part to the night, as Ollie reminisces over the many great performances from bands and musicians including, We Cut Corners, Travis Oaks, Puka, and Winter King. “Dolse Harpists were one of the more unusual performers and went down really well. Heroes in Hiding got a great response and A Million Little Gods were also brilliant,” he says.
At the heart of The CO Club is that local artists and their passion for creativity have a place to breathe, and Ollie enthuses about the wealth of local talent from the area.

The CO Club takes place this Friday, March 27 in Crean’s Bar, Oldcastle. Admission is free and the show begins at 9pm.
