Whats on for the weekend

If you haven't made plans for the weekend, we have a round-up of the main events around the county including the Hooley at the Bridge, Rhythm & Sticks in Club V, the Drung Festival, Michael English in the Country Club and much more ...

Rhythm & Sticks to debut in Club V

It’s going to be a big night in Virginia this Saturday, July 11, as high octane trio Rhythm & Sticks will take to the stage in Club V.

Fresh from their Sunday Sessions’ gig in Creegan’s of Bunlahy earlier this monththe Rhythm & Sticks’ boys are very excited about playing Club V.
“We’ve been battering away largely on the pub scene for the last three years but more recently we’ve started to do bigger venues and festivals. After putting in the hard slog travelling from Cavan and Longford as far afield as Kilkenny and Kerry with the rig, we find now we’re getting more local gigs and wedding bookings are also going strong,” said frontman Emmet Flood, who lives in Mullahoran.
In Cavan, the lads have recently played the Lavey Inn and the Imperial Bar and are very exciting about their first Club V billing.
“Club V is a great venue with a lively clientele. We have played venues in Kilnaleck and Mullagh and even some pubs in Virginia in recent years so we’re pumped up for the Club V stage,” said Emmet, aka 'Rhythm’, who describes the band’s setlist as “a selection of country and Irish songs on steroids”.
Although known for his high energy performances, charisma and on-stage antics, Emmet knows that the Club V audience will expect him to take it to the next level.
The east Cavan niteclub only this week hit international headlines after Irish reality TV star Marc O’Neil decided to strip off in the club having been evicted from the Big Brother house last Friday night.
But the Rhythm & Stick lads, while promising NOT to strip, are up for the challenge.
The other band members are Sean O’Reilly, the man with the 'sticks’ on drums, whose family are from Mullahoran but now lives in Ballinamuck, and newcomer Liam Doherty from Dromard on the electric banjo.
Doors open at 9pm. Tickets €10 to include DJ afterwards.
