Calling on Cavan home chefs!

Chef Neven Maguire is on a mission to celebrate quality local home cookery as he hosts 'The Home Chef of Cavan’ at the Taste of Cavan food festival this August.
Well known for his 'Home Chef’ TV show on RTÉ, Chef Neven is a leading advocate of local produce, and is looking forward to tasting some hearty local cooking at Cavan Equestrian Centre next month.
“I know there are many great amateur chefs in Cavan and the surrounding counties who produce brilliant, honest, home cooking for their families and friends with delicious local ingredients. We want to celebrate these cooks at the 'Home Chef of Cavan’,” said Chef Neven.
The competition is open to anyone who has not worked professionally as a cook and will see entrants prepare a main course for two on a €20 budget in 45 minutes. In addition, 70% of the ingredients used must be local in origin. The competition will take place on Saturday, August 13, the second day of Taste of Cavan.
Neven will be joined by fellow Cavan Chef Shane Smith and London spice guru Anjula Devi in judging the competition and, while all three are accomplished chefs, contestants need not fear – the only grilling will be reserved for the food. The judges’ aim is to celebrate local food and cooking at home.
The winning entrant will win a bumper food package courtesy of Taste of Cavan and MacNean House worth €1,000, consisting of dinner and overnight stay for two at MacNean House, a day for two at Neven’s Cookery School, and €200 in cash.
Entries close this Friday, July 8, at 5pm. To enter, visit www.tasteofcavan.ie/home-chef
