Renowned organist Simon Harden

Top organist plays Kilmore Cathedral

A renowned organist will play some enchanting music at Kilmore Cathedral tonight (Sunday) as part of Heritage Week.
Simon Harden has compiled a programme that will include popular works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi and Louis Vierne. Niamh McCormack, soprano will perform with Simon as part of the recital.
The organist has also selected three pieces by Cavan based composer Paul Flynn, a selection from his work Suibhne Faoi Bhodhrán Gealaí, a collaboration with poet Noel Monahan.
Dublin’s Simon Harden holds a lecturer position in organ at the DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama. His studies at the music academies in Berlin and Hamburg led to a first-class Postgraduate degree in performance. Two years studying French music in Paris gained him a ‘Premier Prix’. On receiving a scholarship from the City of Hamburg, Simon completed the ‘Konzertexamen’ – the highest award for performance in Germany. He has also won a host of international prizes which, in short, confirm that Simon is amongst the best.
Shercock’s Niamh McCormack has toured extensively as the vocal soloist with Riverdance, and recently performed with the Cavan Singers’ presentation of Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria at the Cathedral of SS. Patrick and Felim, Cavan.
“We are looking forward to this event,” enthused Vera Pollock, organist at Kilmore Cathedral. “Our organ is a Charles Brinsley Organ, 3 Manual and we have had it extensively renovated in recent years, so this event with Mr Harden will be a treat for us all and we will welcome Niamh McCormack back to Kilmore, she performed here back in 2012.”
The concert takes place in Kilmore Cathedral on Sunday, August 28 at 7pm. Refreshments served after the event at Kilmore Hall.
