More parades than you could shake a crozier at!

Few counties embrace St Patrick's Day as much as Cavan, as shown by the sheer number of parades Breffni-wide and beyond. It takes huge effort to organise the parades, so they should be rewarded by the support of the whole community. Hopefully the weather will be kind and we look forward to a great day.

 

Arva

This parade is at the usual time of 3pm on Saturday, March 17 with €2,000 in prize money it is one of the biggest parades in the country. There is also the best dressed window competition and organisers would like to see as many businesses as possible taking part.
 

Bailieborough

Parade will commence at 2.30pm. This year there will be €1,500 in prizes, prizes for best club, comedy, business, and window display. In an effort to invigorate the parade in our town, we are looking for more help and ideas from you all, we are proposing a special category for clubs in the area with a prize of €500 for best club float or pageant. We’d really appreciate all businesses big or small to put in a float (all entered free). Any ideas please get in touch with any committee member. Also we will need stewards to help on the day for a few hours. Please contact 0868222155 or 0862836157 or any committee member for more information. Floats will have free entry. All help and ideas welcome.
 

Ballinagh

Annual and eagerly anticipated parade will commence from the community centre car park at 4.30pm. Numerous prizes will be won and a great evening of entertainment is assured for all the family with everyone welcome.
 

Ballyconnell

The parade starts this year from Rahkeelan on the Derrylin Road at 3pm. It will be lead by the Mountain Road Pipe Band from Teemore, and the parade will be lead out by a former member of the Reserve Defence Forces. This parade always draws a great crowd.
 

Ballyjamesduff

St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place at 4pm. All helpers are requested to assemble in the Square at 10am to prepare. Would all clubs/businesses who are intending to participate in the parade please assemble from 3pm at the Mart on Granard Road, Ballyjamesduff. Your continued support and participation is very much appreciated by the Parade Committee.
 

Cavan

The county town will again host a massive parade featuring no less than eight marching bands and countless floats. It begins from the Tesco Carpark at noon and makes its lap of the town. For those who can't make it, the parade will be streamed live on Cavan TV www.cavantv.com from noon. The feed will also be live on The Anglo-Celt’s homepage (www.anglocelt.ie)

 

Clones

The celebration will take place as usual on the night before St Patrick's Day, Friday, March 16. S prize of €200 for the most illuminated float. Parade will gather at the GAA Pitch at St Tiarnach's Park at 6.30pm. It will proceed into the town for 7pm where there will be a spectacular fireworks display.
 

Cootehill

Cootehill Chamber who organise the Annual St Patrick's Day Parade in Cootehill have a special treat in store this year: a Kiddies' Toy Tractor Run to celebrate all the 'Young Farmers of the Future'. The parade takes place on Saturday, March 17 at 3pm. Assembly and Registration is at The Pig Market, Cootehill from 2pm. €100's of euro in prizes for Best Overall Float, Best Business Float, Best Walking Float. Come along and enjoy the Fun and Spectacle.
 

Kilnaleck

One of the longest running in the country,organisers are hoping for a big community turn out to participate and support it. They urge all businesses and community groups to enter a float no matter how big or small it is. It is due to start at 3pm from the Ball Alley on the Ballinagh Road and entry is free.
 

Killeshandra

Everyone is promised a day of fun and entertainment in Killeshandra at the St. Patrick’s Day parade. The parade will commence at 12.30pm from the Ballyconnell Road. Entries will be taken from 11.30am Entry is free and there are numerous cash prizes. There will be entertainment in venues throughout the town on the day.
 

Kingscourt

This year's parade in Kingscourt starts at 1pm from the Mt. St. Joseph's Area of Kingscourt. All floats and organisations, clubs, marching bands taking part should be in the Mt St Joseph's area on or before 12.45pm to get a position in this year's parade, residents and businesses are encouraged to display a flag on the day.
There will be parking restrictions along some parts of the parade route, the lower part of the Rocks Road and Market Square will also be closed for the duration of the parade.
 

Mullagh

Traditionally the last parade in the county on St Patrick's Day, it's definitely not the least. The parade gets underway from the sports centre on the Moynalty Road at 5pm.
 

Newbliss

End the St Patrick's weekend on a high this Sunday, March 18 with the parade starting at 5pm. All floats etc assemble at Killeevan National School for 4.30pm.
 

Swanlinbar

St Patrick’s Parade Swanlinbar is now at 1pm (because of the Rugby) from Creamery Road Swanlinbar. All floats to assemble from 12.30pm. Prizes for best floats and best window display in town. No parking on street. Please use car parks. Don’t forget to do up your windows in Swanlinbar for judging Friday.
