Members support executive in quest for grants for remedial works

Cllr John Paul Feeley.
There will be no exemption for Cavan on inspections and registration fees proposed under new legislation for septic tanks. The issue was clarified at this month's meeting of Cavan County Council on Monday during a debate on a motion put down by west Cavan councillor Cllr John Paul Feeley on the issue.
The councillors agreed, however, to support the Council Executive in its quest to have grants put in place for people who are required to carry out remedial works following inspection.
The director of services (environment) Eoin Doyle told the members that the council had written to the Department of the Environment looking for a derrogation for the county from the new regime because it has introduced its own Waste Water Treatment bylaws in 2004 and was the first county in the country to do so. However, the Department said there could be no exemption for Cavan.
