Quinn released from Mountjoy having served sentence

Sean Quinn has returned home having been released from Mountjoy jail earlier today. Released shortly after 9am from the training unit in the prison, the bankrupt billionaire businessman had served his nine-week sentence. That was for contempt of court orders handed down by Judge Elizabeth Dunne, which had been put in place to stop Quinn assets in the €500m International Property Group from being put beyond the reach of IBRC. Quinn Sr, who was jailed on November 2 last, though, was granted temporary release from prison for three days - Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and St Stephen's Day. He was able to attend the christening of his granddaughter on St Stephen's Day and was returned to custody on December 27 to serve the remainder of his sentence. Quinn's son Sean Jnr also served a three-month sentence at the Mountjoy Prison training unit for the same contempt of court orders. Quinn Jr has since offered to sell the penthouse apartment he shares with wife Karen on the outskirts of Dublin's Phoenix Park to demonstrate his willingness to purge his contempt. Quinn's nephew Peter Darragh Quinn received the same contempt of court sentence but fled the jurisdiction and has not since returned. Quinn Sr's release comes three weeks from the day when the Quinn children themselves will face cross-examination in the High Court when the IBRC will be seeking information on the property empire and what happened to the rent-roll from it. The Quinn family are currently involved in a multi-billion euro legal battle with the former Anglo Irish Bank. The family dispute the figure and claim that loans made to them were invalid.
