€250,000 of Cannabis found at Cavan house

Gardai in Cavan have raided a house in the town in which Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €250,000 have been seized. Following a planned search of a house by Gardaí from the Cavan District Crime Unit at 17 Swellen Park, Cavan at approximately 7.45pm yesterday evening (24/1/13), Cannabis plants with an estimated street value of €250,000 was seized. A 42-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at Cavan Garda Station under Section 2 - Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996. A spokesperson for Cavan Gardai explained that members of the Cavan Drugs and Crime Unit raided the house on foot of a warrant following the receipt of confidential information. Upon entering the premises, which had been specially fitted as a grow-house, Gardai found 300 cannabis plants growing on both floors of the two-storey dwelling. The person arrested is currently been detained by Gardai at Cavan Garda Station who are awaiting direction from the Director of Public Prosecution on the matter.
