Library launches postcards from home gathering initiative

Cavan County Library service had launched what is part of a national initiative which has seen 3,000 postcards celebrating Cavan- Past and Present produced, with locals encourged to send them to friends and family living abroad and invite them home for the gathering year. "Using the rich resources of the library's Local Studies Photographic Collection, they have produced six unique postcards with each postcard showing two images depicting aspects of the county in the past and Cavan now. At the local launch of the initiative at the monthly meeting of Cavan County Council on Tuesday evening, County librarian Josephine Brady told the members that subject matter had been carefully chosen to demonstrate interesting aspects of Cavan, with captions as teasers, including The Lake County, Rich in History, Great civic spaces, Remarkable streetscapes and Even presidents come! Each pack contains 60 postcards and County Councillors received one pack each at the launch of the Initiative. Packs will also be distributed to organisers of flagship projects for "The Gathering." She said "we are asking County Councillors to ensure that every single postcard is sent to a Cavan relative or friend living abroad, inviting them to return to Cavan for a Gathering event or even just for a visit during this Gathering year. "We hope and expect that the postcards will bring people home and also will become Collectors' items. Finally, this is only one of the Library Service's Gathering Projects. We plan to deliver great programming for this Gathering year. Watch out for latest news on our Website www.cavanlibrary.ie
