A girl and her mother are still in critical conditions in Dublin and Cavan, respectively, after a serious car crash on Tuesday.
The 13-year-old had to be rushed to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital Crumlin by ambulance after a two-car collision near Corduff Cross, just south of Ballinagh, at around 2.15pm.
The girl was a passenger in the back and was being driven by her grandmother.
She was sitting beside her 10-year-old brother, who was also taken to Crumlin.
Her mother, a woman in her early 30s, had been in the passenger seat in the front of the car and was seriously injured. She was taken to Cavan General Hospital, where she was described as ‘critical’ and remains so.
The children’s grandmother was also taken to Cavan and was described as ‘serious, but stable’ at the time - it is now understood she is making a recovery and is out of the Intensive Care Unit.
The 10-year-old boy was also taken to Crumlin with serious injuries but he, too, is ‘stable’.
Their Ford Fiesta collided with a Volkswagen Passat, driven by a male in his 20s, who was discharged from Cavan General on the day of the crash.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses and Cavan Garda Station can be contacted on (049) 433 1300.
