Attack at 'Quinn Packaging' tonight

There has been yet another attack on the former Quinn Group tonight, The Anglo-Celt understands.

The attack, where a car was crashed and burned out at the entrance to the 'Quinn Packaging' entrance near Ballyconnell, occurred at around 9.30pm tonight (Thursday, March 13) and fire units from Ballyconnell and Belturbet are understood to have answered the blaze caused by the car.

The aggression is the latest in a slew of incidents caused by a group of arson-intent thieves who steal vehicles and then crash them into former Quinn company buildings.

A large 52-seater bus bearing a sign saying 'Paul O’Brien, Diaster Tours, Leaving Soon' was also set alight at the same location at 5am on January 7.

In August, 2011, a car outside the home of businessman Mr O’Brien, who was appointed chief executive to the Quinn Group, was set fire to - his BMW 4x4 exploded, causing damage to Mr O’Brien’s home and that of his neighbour.

The latest attack is just one of a dangerous series of incidents in which parties opposed to the Quinn management regime have tried to sabotage some of the company’s operations. One incident involved an oil-tanker being driven into the doors of the former Quinn Group HQ.

Seán Quinn and his family have repeatedly called on whoever is responsible to stop attacking property.

Gardai were unable to confirm the details of the attack at the time of print and the Garda Press Office will be briefed in the morning for a statement.
