Gardai investigate suspected assault on boxer Nevin

Olympic silver medallist John Joe Nevin is recovering in hospital today following a suspected vicious assault on him at a house in Mullingar earlier this morning, Saturday April 5.
It is understood the Olympic medal-winning boxer was visiting a relative’s house in Ardleigh when the attack took place around 10.30am.
While the 25-year-old’s injuries are not believed to be life threatening, it is understood he is being treated with a suspected broken leg. Its expected he will be transferred to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore from Mullingar, where he will be seen at the specialised orthopedic unit there.
A former fighter out of the Cavan Boxing Club, and trained by local trainer and Sinn Fein Cllr Brian McKeown, Nevin The recently turned professional, beating Alberto Candelaria on St Patrick’s Day in Boston. From that he was setting his sights on the world title.
It is not yet known how serious the injury sustained is however it could seriously damage the boxer's future career.
