Minister to open new CF unit next week

Minister for Health Dr James Reilly will be on hand next Friday, April 11 to officially open the new Cystic Fibrosis Outpatient Suite and Acute Medical Assessment Unit at Cavan General Hospital, which became operational last year.

A collaborative initiative between the Cavan and Monaghan Hospital, and the Cavan Branch of Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Ireland who part funded the project the first phase of a much bigger project which will see facilities there enhanced to care for person living with the condition who attend Cavan General for treatment.
Costing approximately €150,000 in total, over €60,000 of which has been provided by Cavan CF, Elliott Building and Civil Engineering carried out the work on the new unit which is located next to the hospital laboratory, the respiratory specialist nursing unit and the physiotherapy department.

This allows for patients to access the hospital’s full support team on arrival.

The Cavan Hospital Management Team have said the project enhances the management and care of all CF patients in Cavan, Monaghan and surrounding counties.

As part of his visit to the Cavan Monaghan region the Minister will also officially open Connolly Street Primary Care Centre in Cavan town as well as the Acute Medical Assessment Unit, also at Cavan General Hospital.
