The mother of all promotion campaigns...

A number of innovative retailers and businesses from Cavan town have joined forces in the current economic climate to encourage business and reward their consumers. The 16 businesses came together to print a flyer, carrying money-off coupons and details of a prize draw, for last Mothers' Day weekend. The flyers were inserted in every copy of last week's Anglo-Celt. The price of inserting the flyers and distributing them to over 13,300 households all over the county, via the leading local newspaper in the region, cost each business on average less than €100. Catherine Jenkins of Jenkins' Interiors in Cavan town was the driving force behind the Mothers' Day flyer. She said she wanted to do something different and thought Mothers' Day would be an ideal occasion to celebrate, against the backdrop of providing gift ideas from local retailers and businesses. "The cost of the campaign would have been prohibitive for most of us to do alone but when we all came together it was very manageable," said Catherine. The other retailers involved were Cavan Travel, The Hair Gallery, Flood's Florist, The Gift Box, Maudi's Restaurant, Veale's Pharmacy, TELEcare, Cameo Flowers Ltd, New Beginnings, En Vogue health and beauty salon, Elegant Gems jewellers, Forget Me Knot florist, Shirley Sherrif Jewellers, Fox's Shoes and Gerardine Sheehan opticians. Collectively, the retailers held a prize draw last Saturday afternoon with a range of prizes and also provided street entertainment for shoppers. For details of draw winners, see page 6. To celebrate the initiative, The Anglo-Celt is offering businesses a 15% discount on inserts in the newspaper if booked in between now and the end of May, 2010. The cost of insertion is normally €120 per 1,000 copies, based on a print run of 16,600 newspapers. This makes for a total of less than €2,000, which can be paid by one business or divided among a number of businesses as happened with last week's insert. The current promotion offers 15% off those prices. The latest Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) figures confirm that The Anglo-Celt is, by far, the biggest selling newspaper in Co. Cavan, selling over 13,300 copies every week. It was one of only seven regional newspapers in the country to grow its circulation in the last six months of 2009 - bucking a national trend, which saw regional newspaper sales fall by an average of nine per cent. The Anglo-Celt is the only Co. Cavan-based regional newspaper to allow its figures to be independently audited by the ABC, giving guaranteed, certified figures to our readers and advertisers. Editor Linda O'Reilly says: "The figures show that we are going into over 13,300 households in Co. Cavan every week and have a weekly readership of over 46,550. This gives advertisers peace of mind to know that if they choose to advertise or insert flyers or brochures into The Anglo-Celt that they are been delivered into households all over the county and reaching their target audience. It offers real value for money." Yvonne Jackson, advertising sales manager with The Anglo-Celt, said: "Inserts have proven very successful for both us and the advertiser in the past and we get a lot of repeat business. The feedback we get is that the life of the insert extends far beyond the life of the paper, therefore offering extremely good value for money."
