Is March 28 a Cavan record for silage cutting?

There's every chance that the great weather at the end of March afforded a number of local farmers to set a new record for the earliest silage cut in Cavan.

Due to the wet spell in late summer and Autumn, and the unusually fine spell we enjoyed in March, Wesley Strong was one of those who had the mower out early. He cut 50 acres at his Cavancoulter farm, Mountnugent. He says it's the earliest he's ever cut and admits if he would never have believed he would be cutting in March.

Saying it was all "down to weather" he mowed it on March 28 almost two months before his usual date of around May 20. He says he hopes to do two more cuts.
