Blessings in disguise

"In a way I was blessed," says Mattie Cullen, "believe it or believe it not."

This takes a lot of believing, particularly after having listened for over three hours about a heart condition which robbed him of his livelihood, a diabetes diagnosis, a suspected blood clot in the heart, and the dreaded C-word. Mattie's blessing would be another's curse.
