Rural Rambles is back with a bang sampling the new year vibes in the town of Cootehill. As the rain and the wind combined to make a fresh Irish day on last Thursday, myself and photographer Alex Coleman braved the elements in quest of happy Cootehill people getting on with life.

Our first port of call was Hannigan's Grocery and Bar where we encountered banter galore with James and Sean Hannigan. Sean revealed that the Hannigan's had been in this premises since the '60s but were part of the Cootehill business landscape since the early 1900s and quickly produced a docket for wool, dated August 18, 1917.
