Cavan VEC is entering the "final stages" of negotiation with the Department of Education for the money needed for its long-awaited deal for Dun Ui Neill Barracks.

It is hoped the Cavan Town site will be transformed into a new state-of-the-art education and training campus. It marks a key phase for the organisation, who also recently learned that CEO Colm McEvoy, a major player in the Cavan campus deal, is to take up the role in Longford-Westmeath - when the formation of new training and education authority SOLAS is finalised.

"At the moment the Education and Training Boards (ETB) Bill is going through the Houses and it will soon become law, there's no exact date yet, but sometime soon", Mr McEvoy told The Anglo-Celt.
