County GAA board chairman Tom O’Reilly has welcomed a funding boost of €20,000, which the board is set to receive from The Anglo-Celt following the successful partnership on the soon-to-be-published Road to Breffni yearbook.
The 350-page annual, which will be on the shelves on December 1, has garnered a huge response from GAA supporters within the county and Reilly has urged local fans to support the board by buying the yearbook.
“We approached The Anglo-Celt, who have already partnered us in a number of projects over the years, to ask for help in reaping the maximum benefit from our annual,” stated O’Reilly this week.
“They agreed to come on board and assist us and we were delighted that after lengthy discussions, we agreed a figure of €20,000 from the proceeds would go towards the promotion of our games. We strongly urge all Cavan GAA people to support The Road to Breffni for this reason - this is the only publication which guarantees a five-figure sum for Cavan GAA.”
O’Reilly revealed that the sum for the 2011 yearbook alone was equal to the total earned by the board from the yearbook in the previous ten years put together.
“In the past, the board has earned just €2,000 per annum from the yearbook, as has been shown in the annual accounts at convention. This year alone, we will receive ten times that from the Anglo-Celt, who were the only company willing to increase our revenue stream,” said the chairman.
“The Celt is Cavan-based and employs a strong core of local GAA people also. Considering the harsh current economic climate, the Celt has proven its value as a loyal sponsor and it is up to us to repay that generosity by supporting this book above any others.” O’Reilly reiterated the board’s position on any other publication also.
“It is extremely important for local GAA supporters to note that The Road To Breffni is the only annual endorsed by the Cavan county board and is the only one with a guaranteed income for the board. I cannot make the point strongly enough - supporting the Road to Breffni yearbook is vital to the financial wellbeing of Cavan GAA and I strongly urge you to support it.
“This is the official publication of the Cavan county board.”
