Blood donor clinic starts next Tuesday

A Blood Donation Clinic will take place in Granard on Tuesday 25th September from 4.30p.m. to 9.00p.m. at the Sacred Heart National School Barrack Street, Granard. It is important that to remember that many patients in hospitals need our blood and this need never ceases. Please support this essential service.

North Longford transport initiative

The North Longford Transport Initiative in conjunction with Longford Community Resources have received approval to provide transport for people from the area to visit friends in St. Joseph's Hospital, Longford. This is a pilot programme to operate every second Thursday commencing in September. Bus departs from Barrack Street, Granard and Abbeylara Church at approximately 5.30p.m. There will be a nominal charge. Adult Learning Centre Granard

The centre is funded by the Department of Education and Science through Co. Longford V.E.C. Do you need help with reading, writing, spelling, maths or computers? If you do, please call into the centre or ring us at 043-86211 and we will do all we can to help. We offer part-time day and evening courses. Farm Accounts and Taxation Course

Designer clothes sale

The annual "New 2 U" designer clothes sale in aid of St. Luke's Hospital, Dublin will take place on Sunday 30th September, 2007 in The Temperance Hall, Longford. Those interested in donating 'as new' clothing to the event please contact Marett on 086 609 0082 or Maria on 086 271 6418. The clothes need to be in good condition, cleaned, ironed and neatly hung on clothes hangers to be eligible for the Sale. Handbags and shoes are also accepted in mint condition.

Information Session

Mr Charlie McDonald from the Sue Ryder Foundation will conduct and information session to take place on Thursday next 20th September at 3.00p.m. at Granard Community Centre. Mr McDonald will be giving an update on the development and plans of Granard Convent as an accommodation centre for older people. All are welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.

St. Mary's Parish Park Society

The unveiling of the plaque in commemoration of the people whose work and dedication put the facility in place for the parish takes place on Friday September 21st at 5.00p.m. Canon Frank Kelly P.P. will perform the ceremony. To mark the occasion an U-12 game between Killasonna / Sacred Heart Schools and Killeen / Bunlahy schools will take place. Everyone welcome to come along.

Granard Area Action Group

Outreach Services M.A.B.S Problems paying off debt, experiencing financial difficulty. Need advice on Money Management? A representative from the Money Advice and Budgeting Service is in attendance at the offices of Granard Area Action Group each Monday morning from 11.30 a.m. to 12.30p.m. Anyone having difficulties or problems with finances is welcome to come in and receive expert help. E.D.I. Staff from the Longford Employment Development and Information Centre will be in attendance at the Granard Area Action Group office each Tuesday morning from 10.30a.m. to 12.30p.m. to help people with employment and other issues. New Longford Swimming Pool

The Longford Local Authorities are delighted to announce that the Longford Swimming Pool is now open. An all-weather floodlit playing surface and a new adventure play area have also been established at the Mall, providing a new Recreational Complex for Longford.

Takes place on Wednesday 26th September. Please bring bagged clothing to Abbeylara School on or before Wednesday 26th September. Part of the collection proceeds will aid St. Bernard's National School, Abbeylara.

Abbe Edgeworth Bi Centenary

Two hundred years ago the Abbe Edgeworth died in Latvia at the court of the exiled Louis XV111, King of France. This weekend a commemoration of the life of this great priest will take place in Edgeworthtown. On Friday evening at 8.00p.m. the official launch of events will take place in the Park House Hotel, Edgeworthtown with Mayor of Co. Longford Cllr. Peggy Nolan. ??A full programme of events will take place over the weekend including an Old Rite Latin Mass in St. Mary's Church at 11.00a.m. on Sunday morning with chief celebrant Bishop Colm O'Reilly.
