The late Michael (Neillie) O'Neill
There was widespread sadness at the death of Michael (Neillie) O'Neill, Rathmines, Dublin, and formerly of 28 St Phelim's Place, Cavan, at Our Lady's Hospice, Harolds Cross, Dublin on Tuesday, August 2. Neillie was a remarkable man in many ways. Though his life was cut short he lived it to the fullest. He loved his work and worked in the deep well pump industry for over 30 years for a company called Lowara in Dublin. He was known to be one of the finest water engineers in the country. He not only was an expert at his job, Neillie was very creative with his hands and ideas. He could turn his hands to electrics, plumbing, woodwork or anything. He enjoyed all kinds of sport whether soccer, rugby or GAA. Man United was his biggest passion and he travelled to Old Trafford on many occasions. Neillie was great fun and very young at heart and although he had no children himself he got on very well with all his nieces and nephews and easily adopted them all. He was a very kind and generous man. Another passion of his was music. He particularly liked Kris Kristofferson whom he enjoyed listening to during his many long days in hospital during his illness. Neillie fought very hard for almost three years to beat his illness, always bravely and with great hope in his heart. He is sadly missed and survived by his brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, many relatives and many friends in Cavan and Dublin. His funeral took place on Saturday, August 6, from the Cathedral Cavan to Cullies Cemetery. May his good and gentle soul rest in peace.
