Wesley Knox (judge) Martin Butler with his son Eoin and daughter Emear and their Champion and Reserve Champion pedigree Suffolk sheep at the Bailieborough Agricultural Show.

The 35th Annual Bailieboro Show took place on the grounds of Killinkere GFC and Leisure Centre on Sunday, July 4. Weather wise, while the day started out wet and windy the rain cleared early on.

While exhibitors were light on the ground in some of the horse sections, the flowers and garden produce classes as well as photography and art section were well up on last year. Also in the hall was a cookery demonstration by the Park Hotel in Virginia and traditional music was provided by the band A Ton On Ceol. Goat classes were a new addition to the show this year and attracted great interest. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of Bailieboro there was a display of machinery manufactured in Bailieboro in bygone days and the national president of the ISA John O'Hara officially opened the display.

In the young horse section judges John Joyce and PJ Foy awarded the supreme young horse champion to Ronnie McCombe from Tipperary with his 3-year-old gelding by the stallion Darraghasaman; reserve also went to Ronnie McCombe with his 2-year-old filly by Ballinvilla Lad. The champion foal was judged by Michael Casey and Jenny Harte Lavin and was awarded to Paula Howard from Ballinahinch. In the Ridden Hunter Section the Supreme Ridden Hunter went to Eileen Forrest from Drumree with her horse Capristo Trump by Furistos Trump. The champion Connemara was awarded to Eddie Duffy from Trim. Down in the sheep section Robert Porter won the overall champion sheep of the show and in the goat section the champion goat went to Brid McConnell from Robbinstown, Navan. In the Commercial Cattle the champion Commercial was awarded to Sean O'Brien and champion Pedigree to Paul McArdle from Castleblayney.
