Guide to traffic arrangements during the fleadh

The following streets or areas will be closed or have limited access with effect from 4pm on Friday, August 20, to 6am on Monday, August 23:

• Main Street/Connolly Street - Main Street will be closed off from a point beyond the entrance to the Dunnes underground carpark to Fortunes corner. There will be limited access to Main Street daily for a period between 7am to 10am for deliveries to business premises. The Main Street will be the hub for activities during the weekend.

• Ashe Street - This street will be closed on the Main Street side of the entrance to the old Jacksons Showrooms. The Ashe Street exit from the underground car park at Dunne's Stores will be closed and traffic will not exit onto Ashe Street.

• Town Hall Street - This Street will be closed. No parking cones will be placed at the entrance to Townhall Street from Farnham Street.

• Bridge Street - This Street will be closed at its junction with Abbey Street. The Bridge Street car park will be closed as this will be used as a casual trading area.

• A one way system will be put in place (entry via Farnham Street and exit via College Street only). Parking will be restricted to the right hand side of Abbey Street and Upper Bridge Street.

• Bullock Lane - This street will be closed off and there will be no access to traffic.

• College Street/Wolfe Tone Street Junction - This street will become a one-way traffic movement only. Vehicles will only be able to go down, with traffic diverson in place.

• Egg Market Square - This area will be closed to all traffic. The area has been designated for a Gig Rig where most of the concerts etc. will take place. The entrance to this Square from College Street will be closed off.

In preparation for the closure, barriers and "no parking" cones will be put in placed after midnight on Thursday night, August 19/20 so as to have areas cleared by Friday afternoon to facilitate the proposed closures.

The barriers will be in place permanently from approximately 4pm on Friday afternoon.

No vehicular traffic will be allowed through with the exception of emergency vehicles. Limited access will be allowed to residents/deliveries etc.

Delivery Vehicles

Delivery vehicles will be allowed access each morning. All deliveries to be completed by 10am.

Taxi/Hackeys

There are three temporary designated taxi ranks:

Church Street - There will be a taxi rank on the right hand side of Church Street.

Farnham Street - There will be a taxi rank on the left hand side of the street past the Bus Station to the junction at Townhall Street.

Weigh Bridge - The Weigh Bridge at College Street will be used as a Taxi rank

Hackneys will be permitted to pick up pre-ordered fares on Farnham Street outside the cathedral. This area will be maintained for this purpose.

Bus Services

Bus Services to and from the bus station, Farnham Street, Cavan will operate as scheduled and will use the main routes.

Restricted Parking

In order to maximise the flow capacity of the traffic routes through Cavan Town it will be necessary to restrict or prohibit the parking of cars on a number of routes. These restrictions will maximise the space available for traffic to flow without interruption.

Restrictions will apply on College Street/Dublin Road and on the Ballinagh Road.

Traffic restrictions and management will also be in place at:

Tractamotors junction, Dublin Road Roundabout, Drumalee Cross, John Paul Avenue/Cock Hill junction, College Street/Wolfe Tone Street junction, Wolfe Tone Street/Kilnavara Lane/Swellan, Farnham Street, Rugby Club entrance/Swellan, Cavan Fire Station/McMahons Funeral Home, Railway Road/Rossa Place, John Sullivan Home, Cootehill Road, Tesco Car Park, Harmony Heights/Aughnaskerry, The Cock Hill, Laragh Crescent/Finnegans Funeral Home and Farnham Road.

Car parking fleadh traffic

To cope with the projected influx of vehicular traffic into Cavan Town Park - Park And Ride and Park And Walk Facilities will be in operation at:

Quinn Direct on Dublin Road, Cavan bypass (Athlone Link), Cavan Crystal Hotel, Kingspan Breffni Park, Moynehall, Cavan Co-op Mart, Drumalee GAA Park, Drumalee Cross and Cootehill Road.

Each car park will be stewarded and will be adequately signposted. Events information and a bus timetable will be available at each site.

Special Needs Parking

The Townhall Street Car Park will be designated for special needs parking throughout the event.

In addition there are special needs parking bays in all commercial car parks and public areas not affected by street closure.

Commercial Car Parks

The town commercial car parks located at Tesco Car Park will be used.

Emergency Routes

The objective is for emergency vehicles to access all areas using pre-determined designated routes.

Casual Trading

The Bridge Street car park is designated as the casual trading Area for the duration of the Fleadh. No causal traders except those with proper licence/documentation pass through any barriers or checkpoints. Causal trading will be confined to the Bridge Street Car Park and not be allowed anywhere else within the town environs. A towing service will be available to remove illegal traders.

Campsites and Traffic

There will be three campsites for the visitors to Cavan Town:County Cavan Rugby Club, Swellan Cavan; Cavan Gaels Football Park, Kilnavara, Cavan; The Equestrian Centre, Latt, Cavan.

Colour coded designated routes will be provided to these campsites.

The route colour will correspond to the colour code to the campsite. Information signs will be erected well in advance of the town at strategic locations on the main arterial routes to the town.

Schedule Buses

Schedule buses will operate from each carpark facility, event and competition location. A bus will be running at 15 minutes interval from each location. There are four designated drop off points within Cavan town: Fresh Today/Royal School entrance; Townhall Street; Cock Hill/Main Street junction; the Cathedral of Ss. Patrick and Felim.
