Romanian woman refused bail

A Romanian national who admitted she had failed to turn up for court on eight previous occasions was remanded in custody to appear at Cavan District Court this Friday (August 20). Agnana Olteanu (20) of 12 Elton Court, Leixlip, Kildare, and 16 Woodbrook Court, Riverwood, Castleknock, Dublin 15, was charged with theft from Debenhams Mary Street, Dublin 1, on March 29, 2009.

She was also charged with having a false ID in her possession at Monaghan Garda Station on August 7. The defendant was further charged with theft from Londis, and obstructing a garda at Dublin Road, Monaghan, on the same occasion. She was also charged with failing to appear on bail in Dublin on October 23.

Appealing for bail, Ms. Olteanu said on one occasion that she was due in court she was in hospital. Witness did nothing about her warrant as she got no call from her solicitor or prosecuting garda about her appearance. On another occasion, she was in Romania on holiday.

Replying to Inspector Seamus Boyle, witness admitted that she had failed to appear in court on eight previous occasions.

Judge William Hamill refused bail and remanded Olteanu in custody.

Teenage girl on host of charges

A 16-year-old Monaghan girl was remanded in custody to appear at Cavan District Court this Friday when she appear at a sitting of the court last week on a host of offences. She was charged with four counts of assault, five of theft, four of obstructing gardaí in the course of their duty, two sets of public order and one of disorderly conduct. The offences occurred between May 14 and June 25 at various locations in Monaghan. The thefts charges took place at Centra, supermarket, West Street, on June 25; Lidle, Monaghan Road, on May 17 and June 10; Hughes Shop, West Street; and Centra Shop, Glencarn Shopping Centre on June 1, all in Castleblayney.

Remanded in custody

Sean Murray, 42 Cluain Aoibhinn, Swellan Lower, Cavan, was remanded in custody to appear at Harristown District Court on September 10 when he appeared before the local district court for an assault offence. He was charged with assaulting P.J. Kelly at Connolly Street, Cavan, on July 25.
