Martina Dolan pushes her sister Emma Hands in the motorised wheelchair onto the footpath at Kilconny, courtesy of the new dipped area, which makes wheelchair access much easier. Also in picture is Cllr Damien Brady (SF) who lobbied to have the new access bays out in place.
As the drive across the county continues to put wheelchair accessible bays in place on footpaths, the recent provision of such bays on the footpaths at Kilconny in Belturbet has been welcomed by the father of a motorised wheelchair user.
Austin Hands' daughter Emma uses a motorised wheelchair which he has to take out of their vehicle via a ramp at the rear. When that ramp is down, the effective length increases to around 18 feet, which means that there needs to be good clearance in the parking space, so that the vehicle parked behind is not too close.
