Local bank source raises doubt over branch future

A local bank official has cast doubts over assurances from an Ulster Bank spokesperson that none of the eight Cavan branches will close as a result of their massive restructuring plans.

A number of Ulster Bank staff in branches in County Cavan, who did not wish to have their names used, told The Anglo-Celt that they don't know who will be losing their jobs at this time or what the final outcome would be. They were speaking after news had broke that Ulster Bank had confirmed they are planning to cut 950 jobs from its 3,000 strong Irish workforce, with 597 to go in the Republic and a further 353 in the North by the end of this year.
