With the deadline for your nomination for Cavan Person of the Year 2011 awards being next Wednesday, February 15, sponsors The Anglo-Celt and the Rehab Group in Cavan sincerely urge you to put pen to paper and give an 'Unsung Hero' some well-deserved recognition. Don't just wait and crib about the wrong person getting it or the same names always coming up, have your say now. The Anglo-Celt/Rehab Cavan Person of the Year will be announced at a gala banquet in the Hotel Kilmore, Cavan, on Thursday night, March 29, an event that is a major fundraiser for the Rehab Group in Cavan. Guest of honour, Neven Maguire will accept a Special Achievement Award. Joe Finnegan will be MC. Cavan TV will stream the ceremony live online so Cavan people around the world can watch on while relatives and old friends are honoured. "We are running with the theme of 'Unsung Heroes' and seeking to honour the most humble and modest community volunteers across the county," said Linda O'Reilly, editor of The Anglo-Celt. "This year we are revamping the awards to include ten specific categories," she added, those being: Cultural Ambassador of the Year, Grandparent of the Year, Good Neighbour of the Year, Young Person of the Year (U18), Carer of the Year, Community Volunteer of the Year, Fundraiser of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, and Community Group of the Year.
