Bride-to-be passes up Ulster title for hen party crown

Winner Sinead Brady and runner-up Clare Crowe gear up for the pig race.

It was double joy for one bride-to-be this weekend as she scooped the top prize at the Hen Weekend while her beloved camogie team claimed Ulster glory. Sinead Brady had a tough choice when deciding whether to tog-out for Cavan Juniors against Armagh, or dress up for the hen party of a lifetime in Cavan town.

"I'm a dedicated camogie player and it was very hard to decide what to do," admitted Sinead.

Having already committed to the knees-up with her pals, the cornerback put all her efforts into winning the local festivities - and win she did. In the process she picked up €5,000, which will go towards the big day when she marries Ballinagh man, Karl Rudden on May 31, next year. Sinead has no regrets on picking the hen party: "It was absolutely amazing, a brilliant weekend from start to finish, everything worked out so well," said Sinead whose son Killian also celebrated his 11th birthday on Friday.

The packed weekend saw her and her 12-strong hen party dress up as a dice, impersonate the late Whitney Houston - complete with bodyguards - play Twister with local kids at the free Ryan Sheridan concert, sing karaoke in the Meadowview and enjoying a champagne reception at the Imperial.

Her highlight?

"Winning of course!" she joked. "Friday night was the highlight, being dressed up as board games and just having the fun."

On Sunday evening Sinead's victorious Cavan Junior team-mates returned from Belfast with the silverware to help the Lacken lady celebrate her hen party.

"I met the bus coming up the town and we came off with the cup into the Imperial and we were all there for the night. So we had great celebrations for both."
