A blast from the past: Looking for your memories from 'The Bush' in Belturbet

Did you learn to swim at The Bush in Belturbet? In next week's Anglo-Celt Seamus Enright recalls his childhood days of learning to swim at the infamous spot. We want to hear your memories of The Bush. Also, please, email us your old photographs to linda@anglocelt.ie

Lovingly pushed into the waters by watchful parents and encouraging instructors, teamwork with new and familiar friends was needed to pull your feet from sinking and getting sucked deep down into the mud, before wriggling free and carrying on out as far as the steel bar to which novices like myself would've held onto with dear life and kicked our little legs to build up strength. For those capable of going further out, that steel bar proved a bone of crunching contention and potential, with one kick leaving a swimmer with a sore reminder on their shins to maybe lift their leg that bit higher next time round...
