Car stolen and found burnt out

A car stolen over the Christmas period and subsequently used in the course of a number of drive off incidents whereby fuel and other items were stolen, has been found abandoned and burnt out in Cavan Town.
Stolen on Friday of last week, December 27, two days after Christmas, the 95 CN registered Toyota Starlet was used in a number of ‘drive-off’ incidents, one reported in Virginia.
The vehicle was subsequently discovered by gardai abandoned, set alight and scorched on the site where Tesco plan on building their new supermarket in Townspark, Cavan Town the day after it was stolen, December 28.
Meanwhile, gardai are also continuing to investigate an incident of serious criminal damage whereby thousands of euros of damage was caused to machinery at a local farm.
The incidents occurred at a farm at Clonoose, Ballyheelan over the Christmas period, between December 23 and 26, where cables were cut and slashed on machinery in a yard, including a baler, grazer and slurry spreader.
Its estimated the cost of repairing the damage to the machinery could be in excess of €1,500.
The damage was noticed when the owner of the farm went and checked the machinery, and subsequently alerted gardai of the damage having been caused.
