Live from the Ed Sullivan Theater , it’s The Strypes... with David Letterman!

Jenny McGovern

The Strypes performed their self penned tune 'What a Shame' on the iconic David Letterman show last night [Tuesday, March 25] and by all accounts they absolutely nailed it. Social media outlet Twitter was ablaze with praise for the Cavan quartet cementing their rise to success in the USA.  Despite drummer Evan Walsh picking up an injury the band delivered their typical high energy performance- leaving vetern host David Letterman positively beaming with glee as he congratulated the lads.

Now halfway through their first American tour, the Strypes are brewing up a storm on and are receiving rave reviews across the board, from San Franciso to New York. They released their album 'Snapshot’ States-side on March 18, and it too is being widely lauded with Rolling Stone magazine describing them thus: “As songwriters, The Strypes value concision – the right stuff in this music – and have a precocious knack for hooks ('What the People Don’t See’) and retro wit (the line about spaghetti-western villain Lee Van Cleef in 'Angel Eyes’). There is the issue of vision – what comes after you’ve found and mastered your roots – and the thin line between passion and pastiche. But the Strypes are still at an age of discovery, with the chops to apply their learning. They can’t be the new '65 Kinks, Rolling Stones or Yardbirds – that’s been done to perfection – but they’re at the right starting line, making an impressive entrance.”

Next stop on the tour is their debut in Seattle Washington, dates in Oregon, and San Francisco they finishi the American tour in Los Angeles before flying back to Ireland for their two night stint in The Academy.
