Rapist tracked to Ballyconnell back behind bars

The convicted rapist who had been tracked to Ballyconnell is back behind bars.
Trevor Byrne (36) with a prebious address at O’Devaney Gardens in north inner city Dublin was, two weeks ago, tracked down to the Cavan Town but will be in custody for at least two weeks after allegedly breaching the conditions of a suspended sentence.
He had been released from an eight-year sentence for the attempted robbery of a woman at her Dublin home on September 15, 2009.

Judge Patricia Ryan at a Dublin Circuit Criminal Court had suspended the final two years of that sentence, on condition that he enter a bond and abide by strict terms.
Two conditions were that Byrne keep an 8pm-8am curfew and stay off alcohol.
He was brought back before the court on Tuesday for allegedly breaching several of these terms.
Byrne was brought before Judge Martin Nolan who was sitting into the holidays to deal with the Anglo Irish Bank trial.
His counsel asked for Byrne to be remanded on bail until then and said that if he was sent back to prison he was likely to be kept on 23 hour lockup as might “make every effort to end his own life.”
The judge said he took into account Byrne’s very serious previous convictions and his personal problems.
“He has breached the terms of his release and that is incredibly serious.”
The judge ordered that Byrne be remanded in custody until April 29 when it will be decided whether or not to reactivate the two-year suspended sentence.
Byrne has spent only hours of the last 20 years outside of prison after re-offending upon release.
