Despite being the bookies’ favourite to win The Voice of Ireland there were no hints of nerves when the Celt caught up with Brendan McCahey early yesterday morning (Tuesday).
The Shercock native stormed through the semi-finals last weekend securing himself a coveted spot in the final this Sunday. The 32-year-old dad of one has gained popularity week on week with his flawless renditions of popular songs - tackling various genres from glam rock to rockabilly.
He made history last weekend when his performance of Sam Smith’s ‘Stay with Me’ showcased his panio skills as well as his vocal range, and he received two perfect ‘10’ votes from judges Jamelia and Kian Egan.
When the Celt spoke to Brendan on Tuesday afternoon he was waiting to welcome his mentor Bressie to his hometown of Shercock.
“He’s coming down with a crew from RTÉ to film a bit for the final. We’re filming up at the new running track and we’re hoping that there’ll be a good crowd. It’ll be a meet and greet, people will be able to chat to Bressie, and of course I’ll be able to thank everyone for all their support.”

Celebrate
There are four acts left in the competition and each will perform this Sunday night with a guest of their choice - Brendan has chosen to sing with Jerry Fish and they will perform ‘Celebrate’. Brendan remains unfazed by the prospect of the final.
“I’m very much looking forward to it but I’ll be treating the final like any other show. I’ve done a lot of the ground work already and I’m just building upon it week after week.”
Brendan will appear on the final of The Voice of Ireland this Sunday at 6.30pm on RTÉ1. Tune in and don’t forget to vote for Brendan!
