John Wilson is out of the local elections to allow for his recuperation.

Wilson out of locals, 'may' contest general election

Garda whistleblower John Wilson has said he is will not contest the upcoming local elections due to health reasons but sources close to the Cavanman say he has not ruled out running in next year's general election.
Mr Wilson had planned to run as an independent in the new six-seater Cavan-Belturbet on May 23, after being urged to consider it by members of the public.
However, he recently underwent an operation for bowel cancer and is in need of lengthy recuperation.
Speaking to The Joe Finnegan Show on Shannonside FM, Wilson said he was deeply disappointed that he was unable to run.
“If I can’t give 100 per cent commitment to running, there’s no point. I don’t believe in half measures,” he said.
In 2012, he revealed details of penalty points terminations within the force which are now the subject of an inquiry.
Mr Wilson was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
