Fancy dress event shows raising awareness isn't hard work

The Cavan Chamber of Commerce organised a workplace fancy dress day today to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society research and the Friends of Cavan Oncology.
The president, Lyn Sharkey, asked employers in the town and county to get behind the Fancy Dress Friday 'Cavan Fighting Cancer’ initiative.
Staff in participating businesses were encouraged to come to workin fancy dress and to donate €5 to the cause.

Bravery
“Unfortunately, cancer is an illness that touches every family and leaves us in awe of the bravery of our loved ones who are fighting the illness, anxious and distressed at watching them go through it and sometimes absolutely heartbroken if the battle is just too much,” Ms Sharkey told the Celt.
“Together we can raise much-needed funds for research and help in the fight against cancer. At the same time, we can celebrate life by having a fun-filled day and taking some time to join together as a community to achieve something really worthwhile. It’s good to let go and be silly sometimes,” she added.
Ms Sharkey hoped that if all businesses got on board - Cavan could gain some national publicity.

“Let’s show everyone what a brilliant business community we have in Cavan.”
