Gardaí discover bodies of missing Dublin men

Gardaí have confirmed they have discovered the bodies of the two Dublin men, Eoin O'Connor and Anthony Keegan, who went missing while visiting the county last month.

The discovery was made on Inchicup island on Lough Sheelin in the south of the county, close to Ross at approximately 4.30pm. Gardaí have sealed off the scene as they prepare for forensic examination of the area involved.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified. The bodies of the two males have not been identified at this stage.

Mr O'Connor and Mr Keegan, natives of Coolock, were last seen by friends and family in the Kilbarron area of North Dublin. It is understood they had travelled to Cavan to collect a €15,000 drugs’ debt owed by a man living in the Ballyjamesduff area.
However, the alarm was raised by family and friends of the two men when they failed to return home.
Garda investigations also centred on an anonymous phone call made to Monaghan garda station claiming the bodies of the missing men were dumped in a field near Ballyjamesduff.

A subaqua team had previously searched much of Lough Sheelin, three weeks ago.
A garda helicopter had at an earlier stage searched a forested area overlooking the Farren Connell Estate near Mountnugent, while gardaí have also conducted searches on bogland near Clontyduffy.
The discovery of the car the men travelled in at a car park overlooking Lough Owel on April 25 led also led to a significant search of that area, including the diving unit, although nothing was recovered.
The family of Mr O'Connor spoke to The Anglo-Celt in recent weeks calling for the return of their son and brother and his best friend.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information particularly those from the boating community on Lough Sheelin or anyone who may have been on the Lough between 22nd April 2014 and 26th May 2014 to contact Kells Garda Station on 046 9280820, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
