Mcguinness is congratulated on new vicepresident role

The President of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has congratulated MEP Mairead McGuinness on her role as Vice-President of the European Parliament for 'Information and Communications'. This means McGuinness will oversee the Parliament's Information Policy, Press and Citizens Relations including the organisation of the Parliament's information offices across all 28 Member States (such as that in Dublin).
In her role, the Fine Gael MEP will chair meetings of the Working Group on Information and Communication Policy and co-chair the Working Group on Inter-institutional Group (including Council and Commission) on Communication – shaping all future policy directions.
McGuinness (MEP for Midlands North West) will play a leading role in the area of children's rights as a mediator in certain cases on behalf of the European Parliament. This role has particular relevance in terms of child abduction or custody cases in which a parent lives in a different European Member State to another, for example.
McGuinness will also continue as a Member of the Parliament's Agriculture and Environment Committees.
