Cavan water works to finish in mid 2015 but not before more traffic delays

Works as part of the €20m upgrade of the Cavan Town Sewerage Scheme are progressing, as planned and on schedule, though they will necessitate traffic controls on college street for much of the month of February.

The Director of Services with Cavan County Council John Brannigan told The Anglo-Celt this week that the works on the wastewater network and treatment plant are due to be completed by the middle of the year, with the new plant set to be commissioned before the year end.
As the project moves to the next phase, Mr Brannigan says that it is regrettable that there will be an affect on traffic and unavoidable delays for three to four weeks commencing in early February when work commences on the College Street gravity sewer.

Works in progress
The work on the Athlone Road rising main (Lidl junction to tractamotors) is ongoing at present and will continue for the next two weeks.
The work on the Dublin Road and Laragh Crescent rising main (Pauwells to Tractamotors) is also progressing and expected to continue for the next three to four weeks.
Work on the Cootehill Road gravity sewer (Cavan Institute to Drumalee Cross) is ongoing and will continue for the next four weeks; while the Keadue Lane rising main (Cathedral Junction to Carrigfern Estate) is due to be completed by the end of this week.
Works on the Dublin road pumping station are also ongoing and works a further two pumping stations at College Street and Cathedral road will commence at the end of next week and at the mid February respectively.

Works due to commence
Work at the Cathedral Road crossing (at Elm Bank junction) will be carried out in two week’s time and the work on the College Street gravity sewer (Royal School entrance to Tractamotors) is set to commence in early February and will last for a likely duration of three to four weeks.
The Dublin Road gravity sewer (Pauwells to Kilmore Hotel) work will be commencing in approximately one month’s time, taking over two months.
Work on the Dublin Road gravity sewer (Pauwells to Cavan Crystal Hotel) is due to take place in about two month’s time, and set to take about a month to complete.
Chamber construction and testing works is also due to be completed at Swellan Lower rising main (from Drumglen Drive to Glen Lara).
While Irish Water now has responsibility for the works, the local authority is acting as their agent under a service level agreement for the operational side of the works and the delivery of the capital project. The work itself is being carried out by P&S Civil Works Ltd.
Mr Brannigan stated that P&S Civil Works Ltd are working with the council’s Roads Department to ensure that traffic disruptions and inconvenience are kept to a minimum.

Traffic disruption
From Monday, January 26, the contractor will commence works at the Tractamotors Junction for a week and will be operating a three-way Stop Go/Lights set-up, so traffic will be disrupted.
Another area, which is expected to hit traffic, is the works on the College Street gravity sewer (commencing early February). It is regrettable that this will cause unavoidable delays for a period of three to four weeks, warned Mr Brannigan.
