Bose factory closes in carrickmacross

Over 100 employees at headphone manufacturing giant Bose left the Carrickmacross factory for the last time earlier today.

Approximately 140 staff finished up shortly before 4pm this afternoon. Those who spoke to The Anglo-Celt whilst leaving the premise told this newspaper of the great sadness felt by closure, not just by the now former workforce, but throughout the south-east Monaghan town.

The company announced last January they would be closing their local plant, which was opened in 1978, and transferring facilities to Malaysia and Mexico.

The factory had been due to close in April, but for a last minute agreement to be reached with management to delay the closure while talks continued between them and the union.

SIPTU is meanwhile also continuing its discussions with the IDA with a view to attracting another major employer to the area.
